{"id":984,"date":"2013-01-11T17:14:29","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T22:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lylafilms.com\/?page_id=984"},"modified":"2026-01-20T17:12:41","modified_gmt":"2026-01-20T22:12:41","slug":"lyse-lafontaine","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/lylafilms.com\/en\/lacompagnie\/lyse-lafontaine\/","title":{"rendered":"Lyse Lafontaine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyse Lafontaine is one of Canada\u2019s most highly regarded producers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A veteran of both film and television production, she has worked with some of the most respected names in the Canadian entertainment industry, including Jean-Claude Lauzon on the award winning film <strong><em>L\u00e9olo<\/em> <\/strong>that she produced in 1992 (Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival &amp; Golden Palm at Valladolid).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lyse Lafontaine\u2019s reputation as a producer goes beyond the boundaries of Canada. She has co-produced movies along with other producers from France, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Switzerland and the United States among other countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The year 2006 sees the release of the feature film about a love story occurring during the Rwanda genocide, <em><strong>A Sunday In Kigali<\/strong><\/em>, directed by Robert Favreau and based on the novel by Gil Courtemanche. The film is presented in more than 35 international festivals and wins many prizes along the way, including the Genie for Best Adaptation, the Jutra for Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Original Score, Best Costumes, Best Make-Up, the Best Actress award at the Marrakech International Film Festival, the Best North-American Film award at the Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival along with many public prizes at other film festivals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2008, <em><strong>Mommy is at the Hairdresser\u2019s<\/strong><\/em> is released to critical acclaim. This wonderful film written by Isabelle H\u00e9bert and directed by L\u00e9a Pool about a young girl\u2019s coming of age in the late sixties is presented in many countries and wins the Jutra for the Film getting the most recognition outside Quebec. The film wins a Public Prize at both the Soleure Film Festival in Switzerland and the Goeteborg Internationl Film Festival in Sweden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Summer 2009, she was coproducer with producer Robert Lantos (Serendipity Point) and coproducer Domenico Procacci (Fandango, Italia) <strong><em>Barney\u2019s Version<\/em>, <\/strong>the adaptation of the famous Mordecai Richler novel, directed by Richard J. Lewis and starring Paul Giamatti, Dustin Hoffman, Rosamund Pike, Minnie Driver, Scott Speedman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2011\/2012, she produced Xavier Dolan\u2019s film <em><strong>Laurence Anyways<\/strong><\/em>, starring Melvil Poupaud, Suzanne Cl\u00e9ment, Nathalie Baye and Monia Chokri.\u00a0 The film was chosen to take part of the official selection \u201cUn certain regard\u201d and won \u201cBest Actress\u201d award.\u00a0 In 2012, it won \u201cBest Canadian Film\u201d at the Toronto International Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2013, Lyse was associate producer on <em><strong>Tom at the Farm<\/strong><\/em> a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Psychological_thriller\">psychological thriller<\/a> directed by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xavier_Dolan\">Xavier Dolan<\/a>. The film is based on the play of the same name by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michel_Marc_Bouchard\">Michel Marc Bouchard<\/a>. It was screened in the main competition section at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/70th_Venice_International_Film_Festival\">70th Venice International Film Festival<\/a> on 2 September 2013 and also at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2013_Toronto_International_Film_Festival\">2013 Toronto International Film Festival<\/a> in the Special Presentation section. At Venice the film won the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Federation_of_Film_Critics\">FIPRESCI Prize<\/a>\u201d. The film was a shortlisted nominee for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_of_Canadian_Cinema_and_Television_Award_for_Best_Motion_Picture\">Best Picture<\/a>\u201d at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2nd_Canadian_Screen_Awards\">2nd Canadian Screen Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2014, she produced <em><strong>Love Project<\/strong><\/em> a film by Carole Laure and \u00a0<em><strong>The Passion of Augustine<\/strong><\/em> a film by L\u00e9a Pool winner of many prizes such as the\u00a0Public Prize at the Festival du Film\u00a0Francophone d\u2019Angoul\u00eame and the\u00a0Gold Award &#8211; 2015 World Cinema Indie at\u00a0the Mill Valley Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with Mifilifilms, she produced Xavier Dolan\u2019s feature film <strong><em data-start=\"116\" data-end=\"155\">The Death and Life of John F. Donovan<\/em><\/strong>, a coproduction with the United Kingdom. With Robert Lantos (Serendipity Point Films), she coproduced with Hungary Fran\u00e7ois Girard\u2019s latest feature, <strong><em data-start=\"305\" data-end=\"324\">The Song of Names<\/em><\/strong>, a screen adaptation of the bestselling novel by British author Norman Lebrecht. In 2023, she coproduced with Fran\u00e7ois Tremblay <strong><em data-start=\"453\" data-end=\"468\">Hotel Silence<\/em><\/strong>, adapted and directed by L\u00e9a Pool from the novel <em data-start=\"518\" data-end=\"522\">\u00d6r<\/em> by Audur Ava Olafsdottir, a coproduction with Switzerland (Louise Productions, Lausanne), as well as <strong><em data-start=\"624\" data-end=\"641\">On Sera Heureux<\/em><\/strong> in 2025, based on a screenplay by Michel Marc Bouchard, a coproduction with Luxembourg (IRIS Productions).<\/p>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><em>2013-01-11<\/em> &#8211; Lyse Lafontaine is one of Canada\u2019s most highly regarded producers.
